Scottish elections 2007

Scottish Parliament and Local Council elections took place on 3rd May 2007. To find out how the votes were counted and to get the final election results, follow the links on the right hand side of this page.

VoteScotland was a politically neutral campaign run by the Scottish Executive and the Electoral Commission. In the run up to the elections, this website provided information such as why it's important to vote, how to register, what happens at a polling place and how to stand for election.

Additional Member System

The 2007 Scottish Parliament election used the Additional Member System (AMS) where each voter had two votes: one regional and one constituency.

Single Transferable Vote

The 2007 Local Council elections used Single Transferable Vote (STV) for the first time. Voters were asked to rank candidates in order of preference.
