The Ballot Paper
The introduction of Single Transferable Vote (STV) means that a new ballot paper has been designed to make it as easy as possible for people to express their preferences in the election.
The ballot paper will have three columns, the first of which will contain the name of the political party that the candidate is representing (or their Independent status), the second will contain the candidate’s details and the emblem of their political party, and the third column will be the voting boxes which voters will fill in with numbers to indicate their preferred choices of candidates ( a ‘1’ for the first choice; a ‘2’ for the second choice, ‘3’ for the third choice and so on).
On the ballot paper candidates will be ordered alphabetically by their surname.
